Phyllis Leigh

“We cannot selectively numb emotions, when we numb the painful emotions, we also numb the positive emotions.”

- Brené Brown; The Gifts of Imperfection

Phyllis is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has a wealth of professional clinical and leadership experience. Phyllis is experienced in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, trauma-focused mental health treatment, substance use, hospice social work, bereavement counseling and medical social work. She is a trained provider of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Psychological First Aid, and the Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention. She also has experience in the utilization of Cognitive Processing Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

In addition to clinical experience, Phyllis also supervises and mentors certified social workers’ clinical practice as they strive to meet requirements for independent practice. Phyllis taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work for 14 years before transitioning to full-time teaching in the undergraduate social work program at Eastern Kentucky University for several years. Currently, she teaches for EKU part time when the opportunities arise. Phyllis was previously the Outpatient Program Director for Key Assets Kentucky, and most recently the Clinical Services Director with Alteri Behavioral Health. Phyllis resigned from her Director position due to her desire to work more directly with clients in a private practice setting. It is her goal to offer understanding, support, and guidance for anyone looking for clarity, healing, or balance in their lives.

Phyllis is accepting new clients between the ages of 4-12 and 20+, depending on availability.
